Lutheran Braille Workers believes there is an unfortunate stigma attached to individuals who are Blind or Visually Impaired. This is seen throughout the world in which 95% of all those in this community are unchurched. In the United States alone, fewer than 9% of individuals with severe Visual Impairment have meaningful careers, and less than 40% are able to access jobs at all. Churches and schools fear opening their doors because they often do not know how to serve men, women, and children who are Blind or Visually Impaired.
The key to overcoming these fears is through education. If your church, organization, school, or community group would like to learn more about Braille, Large Print, or how to provide services to this underserved population, please contact us at 1-800-925-6092 or lbw@lbwloveworks.org.
Lutheran Braille Workers provides free materials for people of all ages regarding Blindness and Visual Impairment, including school packets, brochures, Braille sheets, and worksheets. In addition, Lutheran Braille Workers can help you learn how to run a “Dining in the Dark” experience at your facility. Most of these resources are available in our “Materials section”, but if you need anything additional, please contact our headquarters directly.
Finally, if you are seeking a speaker or presentation regarding our ministry, please let us know as far in advance as possible, and often arrangements can be worked out.
